The Weekly Botanical Alignment:
Mars in Gemini + Calamus Root
June 28th to August 11th
My brain has been more scattered than usual, so when I realized we’re in the middle of a Mars in Gemini transit, it all began to make more sense.
Astrologically speaking, Mars is the planet of action, ambition, aggression, and primal energy. It represents how we fight, what motivates us to get out of bed, and the way we assert our will in the physical world.
When it transits Gemini, the sign that governs communication, intellect, multitasking, and local information, our words become our primary weapons and tools. Gemini’s energy is fast, curious, adaptable, and highly conversational, but its shadow side can manifest as scattered (ahem…), anxiety-driven, and over-intellectualized.
While this transit brings a surge of creative ideas and sharp communication skills, it also has a downside: it’s easy to scatter your energy, get pulled into unnecessary debates, or let mental stress build until it becomes physical exhaustion.
To stay grounded during this fast-moving, restless transit, work with Calamus Root (also known as Sweet Flag). In Southern rootwork and folk magic, Calamus is valued for strengthening focus, self-command, and mental clarity. Rather than letting Mars scatter your attention or pull you into reactive conversations, carry a small piece of Calamus root in your pocket as a reminder to stay centered and let your words be intentional, measured, and powerful.
What are some other ways you use Calamus Root?
